Artist: The Second Hand Marching Band
Label: Self-released, 2014
If you have a band who play 20 instruments, it is easy to produce various and unique sound. The hard part is to make it good and enjoyable. This Glasgow band did it in folk music. Presenting folk in a large ensemble.
This whole album is like a music in a street parade, a festival, or maybe it is good for anykind of event. Check out 'This Is The Story' and you will get what I mean. 'We Will Convince You' started with a mellow tune and turn to be rousing when singing. I note the trumpet, it's great!. I like 'Climbing Up The Walls', popish song with sweet simple melodies. It is impossible to forget and not sing in the part, so that someday you'll be waiting for me. 'Signpost' is a traditional folk music with touching lyric. If we're going the same way I'd like to come too/my radio's broken, my heart is too weak to/sing you the songs that I know that you'd like/so I whistle and mumble for the rest of our night. And if you love this song, I bet you would love 'Spark', the same taste with very beautiful female vocal.
'A Hurricane, A Thunderstorm' and 'You Said You Were A Broken Person' are majestic songs, especially in the chorus. Pay attention to how they sing together to make this song feels so up-lifting and suddenly lowering the dynamic. I love the closing song in this album, 'Paper Year'. A perfect ending for the journey of the songs. I personally love this album and I would be happy to suggest you giving a listen to their bandcamp and like their Facebook page.
