Artist: The Madcaps
Label: Howlin Banana, 2015
The Madcaps, from Rennes, western France, is a garage rock/punk band mixed up with the sensitivity of mid-tempo groove and melodious pop music. Thanks to Tom who came to mail me and turned my first click on their 'I Knew It All' into a favorable music listening experience.
The most interesting part of this self-titled album is how they precisely slip between major and minor progression of chord. Moreover, if you are, like me, into the composition of fuzzy guitar, tight drumbeats, and warm bass lines, this one is absolutely for you. A very well structured of harmonies and tremolo-based ballads wrapped up in a raw sound like where you find in Black Lips or King Tuff. I am a big fan of those two. Maybe that is why I'm so easily connected to The Madcaps. 'Nothing To Do', 'Melody Maker', or 'Haunted House' sound like they are influenced by Black Lips' Arabia Mountain.
I highly recommend this band for those who's looking for garage rock band who doesn't only make a chaotic undefined noise all along an album. The Madcaps successfully keeps their rawness on a right portion, and moreover, enjoyable. You can stream it here and meet the band here. Oh, they have video for the song 'Moon Night' on youtube too.
