Artist: Syd Lane
Label: Cabinessence Records, 2013
Claudio Cataldi (again) recommended me an American singer named Syd Lane. I went to her bandcamp then. There I knew this singer just released her latest album from a New York indie label, Cabinessence Records. Her latest album called 'Lady Lazarus' and this is interesting album. Moreover, after I browse more her previous works, I know exactly this singer is interesting (Well, Claudio, I owe you a bunch of thanks)
"I was born to make music so that is what I do. I write, perform, record, and mix everything by myself in my home studio," that is what she wote in every her social media account. Great, Syd Lane! if you are so what you described, you are the one I'm looking for.
This album title is interesting too. Lazarus, as I know, is a saint resurrected by Christ from the death. Well maybe Syd Lane wanted to describe her coming back since the last time she released an album, which was 2011. Whatever it is, this album contains of fourteen chamber pop/folk/indie songs. Her vocal is lo-fi recorded. The whole songs are very emotional, just like a story telling. 'LSDMDMA' and 'Two Bit Drunk' are what the balck horse on the album cover represents, of course, beside the most interesting song title you ever found from female singer, 'Daddy You Bastard'. Meanwhile, you can also find some heartbreaking stuffs yet sweet like 'You Go Your Way', 'The Girl With Crying Eyes', or 'Celebrating Christmas'.
So girl, if you want express your feeling in a song, you may learn a lot from this album.
You can listen to this album in Cabinessence bandcamp.
