Artist: Sound Awakener
Label: Petroglyph Music
Sound Awakener is a moniker of Nhung Nguyen from Vietnam. Honestly, you will not listen to Sound Awakener to sing along or to feel comfortable listening to beautiful song, even though you know it is piano being played. Sound Awakener uses piano as a paintbrush and every tone as the paint on a surreal canvas.
'Five Chapters' refers to endless search in life. In 'Vibrate', a loneliness carefully crafted by reverb layers, capturing an emptiness. 'Gather Eternity', with its distorted sound, is a symbol of the beginning of journey to find something in that emptiness. However, the journey sometimes end in a confusion, a maze of lost, finding nothing but wondering. That is how 'Gallery of Emptiness' playing with the lo-fi recording to bring a stretch of being lost. This album closed by two songs combining piano and field recording, 'Remembering All Passing Things' and 'Untold'. You don't get any proper ending for the journey of these songs, only half hung tone in the end of song. Something that make you will not realize that you have reached the end - or no end.
A "disturbing" album which will make you pay attention to every details of sound. Maybe not comfortable to be listened, but rich of imagination and story within the piano playing. Very interesting. Get your own journey by streaming the album here or connecting with the artist here.
