Label: Shiny Happy Records, 2014
Flannel is one man indiepop/dreampop/shoegaze formed by Tomohiro Wakai. I just got this album from Shiny Happy Records a few hours ago and directly love it. The songs in this album are composed under the beautiful soudscape, somehow reminds me of Venus Peter, Paint In Watercolour, or The Radio Dept.
The interesting thing about this album is the last track where he covers Young Marble Giants - Final Day. I remember often play that song with a friend back then and listening to Flannel's version brings different impression. That minimalist fast post-punk song turned into slow tempo with noisy shoegaze alike guitar driven song.
I try to describe the sensation listening to the album, but Mr. Eko has done it in a way that makes me think, "Hell yeah, I bet he's right." He said that the best time to listen to this album is if you go to a rooftop or a park with your cd player at 4 around the clock in the afternoon. However, I am more interested doing it at 4 AM in the morning.
I do recommend you to get this one at Shiny Happy Records and get in touch with the band, or in this case, the man.
