Artist: Cousin Silas
Label: Sucu Music, 2014
A very deep and meaningful album from Cousin Silas. From the Sucu Music page, I noticed that the songs in this album are sketches of a place he used to go as a kid. "It's basically a small valley, a stream running through it and an old mill that had just closed down not long after we moved there. Very peaceful place," said Cousin Silas at that page.
I feel what he means. If you listen to eleven songs, you will understand. Like 'Autumn Arrives' comes up with an ambient from a cold layer of synth, as if you are welcoming the next days in beautiful mist and silence. 'Under Marrydale Bridge' is like enjoying your afternoon looking at the leaves floating in the river. Musically, the piano in the ending is epic, also the guitar. Guitar also become main tools for sound-shaping in 'Hangmans Moor', beside the birds voice.
It is still not enough for Cousin Silas creating a beautiful tracks, listen to 'Relics From The Old Dam (Lullaby)'. In this piano based track, the beauty appears from early beginning to the middle when the electric guitar welcoming a very touching string section. Beautiful! 'The Desserted Valley' is a gloomy one, full of suspense, and dramatic. Anyway, if I read the whole title of the songs, it seems like one day journey in autumn. The arrangement of the songs tell it. The four last tracks, 'The Evening Falls', 'Walking Home', 'The Stars Shone Brighter', and 'At Last The Day Is Done' are the memorable closing for this memorable journey. I love this album so much! You should give it a listen, this is a nutritious intake for your soul. You can download this album on Sucu Music page through the link I put before. I have liked his Facebook page to keep me update about his next project, hope to see you there.
