Label: Single Engine Records, 2013
I am late to find this album. It was released on October 2013, but I think I'm gonna miss something if I don't write about it. Yes, I like this album from this Baltimore pop singer.
'These City Lights' is an alternative pop album, shaped by four songs. 'Let's Go' is an urban pop which I think it's a perfect opening because it describes the mood of the whole songs in the album. Catchy chorus with thin simple synth and piano playing. 'Blue Light City' is surprisingly opened by a rapping. Anyway, in this song, Adryelle played all the instruments, piano, synth, bass, and drum (I read it on the bandcamp). Near the ending, the rapping appears once more, but the most notable for me is the piano lick which appears near the ending too. Very sexy, as well as the bass line and drumbeat close this song.
I also like the solo piano in the opening of 'Playing Games'. In the middle, my favorite part is when the instrumental part, cut-to-cut piano and bass line covering the drumming. I guess it would be a great part to be performed live, a part to show off. The last track, 'Time & Effort' is a simple sweet pop song, almost approaching to indie-pop. This one is my favorite. I think this album would be good to give a certain colour for a night in a big town, like the title. A kind of entertaining album you would love to hear after activities. It has all the formula to do it. Sweet melodies, simple tune, even if you are a virtuoso, you would find a lot of parts to do improvisation here. I like this album and waiting for her next project, that's why I give a like on her Facebook page.
